AIKC recently organised a case study competition in association with the Public Policy and Governance Society (PPGS) at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. Over 2100 students participated in the competition from programmes and universities across India and submitted thought-provoking insights on the role of AI in shaping the future of Bharat.
Students worked on estimating the existing compute capacity in India. The competition involved multiple stages including an online quiz as well as an analysis round. They were judged on their understanding and estimation of the baseline compute requirements, their data collection and analysis, the logic behind their estimation of growth rate and identification of factors affecting compute needs, and finally, their projections of future compute requirements and comparison with global trends.
Piyus Pramanik, Suyash Aakash and Utkarsh from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta won the first prize. Megha Agarwal from the Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University was the first runner up, and Ishan Mittal and Savit Rai from the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra were the second runners up.
Our partner members will be working with the winning teams to hone the research ideas and develop them further.
We believe that engaging students in such multidisciplinary endeavours is essential for the development of a well-rounded discourse on AI in the coming decades. We look forward to more such opportunities.
